No ... it should be expanded. Better yet, people should shoot criminals before calling the police.
Though I can see the argument of giving them a TRUE Life Sentence ... to a prison in the middle of (say) Antartica. Food can be airlifted to them. And if they escape ... it would be a near automatic death sentence, anyway.
the death penalty is not wrong but used incorrectly. A death penalty should be for some really horrendous crime. Something that is not correctable - child molesters would be at the top of the list - There is no cure for what ails them. And it should be within 10 days of when they have been found guilty not 10 years.
No , it should be used more often ! It could be more of a deterrent to crime if the criminal knew they could get the Death Penalty . Just like this Jody Arias trial ! You kill , you deserve to be killed ! Hang by the neck till dead !
No. They say it is no deterrent to crime. That is moot because nothing is. The only deterrent is the people who are executed will never do it again. And with the recidivism rate among criminals they would. Like the parolee who killed the Doctor's family a couple years ago or Willie Horton.
I'm all for the death penalty BUT we have to lose the stupid things that go on in court, for example, a guy has proof that he's innocent but prosecution blocks it because he didn't file the right form or sign it correctly. Once courts are about truth, not winning then zap away.
Death is not a punishment, extreme physical labor, overseen by sadistic guards, with bullwhips, with no chance of parole. That's what I call punishment. For those who think this is cruel, we could throw in ceiling hooks, a stool, and a rope, to make it more humane.
Totally in agreement with the death penalty, but the more I read Olpaint70 answer, sounds pretty good too!!! Maybe let them do the cruel labor until their appeals process runs out, then zap them, works for me!!!
It depends on the intensity of the crime. But yes. The lowest crimes throughout the world recorded is in Saudi Arabia. Rape and murder in USA / SAUDI ARABIA from 1990 to 2010 murder rape total 389480 200693 78 25 See the difference. and justify.
A little bit, but I am mostly for it. It just seems to be a little barbaric; like we're still stuck in the time when there were public hangings. It just doesn't come off as very 'enlightened'. But at the same time, there are some criminals who really are a waste of space and no one likes the idea that they are being paid for in prison to stay alive. But all in all, I think it is okay.
No, it should be expanded/used more. Why should people like the Colorado shooter, Dennis Rader(BTK killer), 9-11 terrorists, child molesters/rapists be put in jail with free health care, free food, a bed, cable tv. All should face the death penalty. I'm so sick of this kindness, compassion, and humane treatment to sadistic and sick people that do such horrible things to people. The victims and their families don't get free food or healthcare. It's ridiculous.

Well, revenge is right in a way, why should people suffer from losing a loved one by a man, when that man does not suffer? It's the golden rule, "Treat people the way you want people to treat you." If you harm someone, then that rule states that you should be harmed as well. But they should not over-torture a man, nobody deserves that, not even mass-murderers.
I don't believe I have the right, or any single man or woman has the right to condemn another to death. Although it does make logical sense to do reinstate it (cut down on prison costs, possible drop in crime etc), I dislike it because of its moral downside.
Really, this is what we obsess over? Over 2.5 million people die each year in the USA... while only 43 people were executed in the USA in 2012... why not focus on a problem that results in more than 0.0000172 of the deaths in America.

There should be more madhouses than jails. I don't see any difference between a person who sentenced to a death penalty and the one who thinks that the death penalty is a good idea. It is just an easy way to get rid of some.
No. I do believe everyone deserves second chances. Sometimes some things are too much or some people take things too far. For example, if I had a boyfriend that cheated on me, it would depend on what he did that would affect my descision of forgiving him. I'd be more likely to forgive him if he kissed another girl instead of having sex with another girl.
Personally I think that justice is just made by people, who are basically should not be trusted. And life has a huge value, even if you made mistakes in your past. So before you ant to judge someone, think what would be it to feel if you were waiting for your death however youre innocent. Sadly there were cases, when a boy had been found innocent ...20 years after his death penalty.
Death penalty sould be performed when this person had several cases, and those cases had clear evidences, so youre going to kill a psychopath who wont change in the future.
