Avoid most breads. You can find high fiber, low carb bread. I eat a lot of carb balance, high fiber flour tortillas, and sometimes I eat peeta bread. If you want to go on a low carb diet, I'd suggest visiting the Atkins's website. On low carb, you mostly eat meats, cheeses, fruits, and veggies, and avoid sugars. Fat is okay though, so you can eat cool whip :).
Replace refined carbohydrates (pasta wheat rice potatoes) with vegetables, raw or baked or steamed. This increases fiber intake too. It works but potatoes are out. You can have whole wheat if you eat just a little, like one toast in the morning. It works. PS stop with the sweet drinks too (corn syrup). Mineral water with lemon is great.
