What are the disadvantages of federalism in the United States?

One of the disadvantages of federalism is that it is expensive as many people are elected in the office. Secondly, federalism leads to unnecessary competition in between different regions. Thirdly, it promotes regional inequalities and fourthly, can make the state governments more selfish.
