Do you think the United States should be concerned by a threat of attack by North Korea?

Nope. All North Korea does is threaten to attack, they never do anything. North Korea has said they're going to put my country in a sea of flames more than 10 times since I've been alive, and they've never done a thing. I don't think any country should be concerned about the North Koreans. And North Korea isn't in the condition to attack another country also...

Minji, have to been to N.Korea lately. They have 4 times the armed troops S.Korea has, U.S. Army could not stop them if they decided to come across today! Also its a fact they got a few nukes, don't have to throw them all the way to the U.S. just throw them far as they can to explode in the ocean. Stronium 90 would be the biproduct 1/2 life for it is about 500 years or longer. So we loose the whole west coast. Japan and S. Korea would be overrun in a few days. Even China is somewhat nervous about them!!Its talk now but the day will come but I know not in my life time.

Not in the least. IF they had nuclear technology (they probably don't) - they don't have the rocket technology to send a missle over. As far as invasions? Their military is so malnutritioned they wouldn't put up much of a fight - and if given a chance to "invade" another country - they would probably all beg to stay!

Seems I'm behind in the news - just last summer their rocket attempts ended in failure.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Strategic_Rocket_Forces_(North_Korea)#Active_Missiles

Oh well I found this quote..... "On the bright side the missle launch cost them $1.3 billion, nearly 5% of their GDP. So no worries of their ever having an arsenal of them. Besides, one is all they'll need - fire it a virtually anyone, and they can expect to be obliterated within minutes."

You are correct. In terms of what the US should worry about NK is a gnat that flies around our heads and drives us to distraction but can do us little harm (except for those living where the nuke hits). But they are a bigger problem to our troops in SK and to SK.

The CIA should attempt to use the $1.3 billion wasted and NK's other military transgressions to encourage the NK public to resist the regime. But alas, people just want to live their lives and believe they can't fight the powers that control them.

Only the cowards think everyone is out to get them, 20rock. Believe it or not, the USA is not under attack from everyone on the face of the planet. The USA has not been attacked by any country in 70 years. On the other hand the USA has attacked dozens of countries over that same time period. Usually in the name of "stopping communism" or "ending a repressive regime" or some trite sentiment like that.

Not in the slightest bit. The politics around N.Korea involves a series of threats by N.Korea, followed by sanctions from the rest of the world. At a certain point The US (or someone else) will offer humanitarian aid if they back down, they receive food and medical supplies for free and back down. This way their leader Kim Jung looks like a hero to his people by standing up to the "evil westerners" and feeding his people with the aid they get. This has been going on since the end of the Korean conflict in 1953, since he's threatening with nukes now I'm sure they're going to insist on more aid then normal.
They may not be smart, but they're smart enough to know that we'd wipe them off the map if they ever tried anything.

There was a colonel, named mitchel,he said what if the Japanese bomb Pearl Harbor, he wasn't living in fear, he just knew anything was possible.
Report as
Yes and when you live your life on the assumption that because anything is possible then it's going to happen you are living in fear of consequences (consequences can be good or bad). And humans, being the naturally fearful creatures that they are, gravitate towards the negative. Suspicions and paranoia are NOT justification for action anymore than they were for the KKKs lynching. For the record the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor was a predictable consequence when the US placed sanctions on the Empire of Japan, after sending them supplies during Japan's invasion into China in the opening years of WW2.

I think anytime that you are threatened by anyone there should be a concern, especially with the commander in chief that we currently have. But not with the outcome. America would destroy them before they got started. Plus we would starve them to death by cutting off their aid completely.

If they ever launched a missile towards the US I think it has a 1% chance of actually getting through. We have a lot of safe guards in place to prevent this from happening from and country not just N Korea.

China is not North Korea's friend. That's a misconception. They are allies in the same way that the United States and Mexico are allies. In other words, the USA would rather have Mexico disappear but hasn't figured out how to sink half of Central America without affecting the rest of that strip of land, while avoiding the negative reaction the rest of the world might have. (Mexico, on the other hand, would like for the USA to disappear and return the territory stolen during the Mexican-American War.)

China, likewise, would rather have North Korea disappear but hasn't figured out how to make a psychotic ruler and his starving people disappear in a manner which wouldn't inadvertently anger South Korea who is, ironically, obsessed with reuniting the two Koreas. (Plus fallout from a North-Korea-obliterating attack would have collateral on South Korea thus trigger a war between the USA and China - the only reason why China would hesitate in making both North and South Korea disappear.)

North Korea has been a bigger threat to this country and for as long a time a Iraq. Why was Iraq invaded and not North Korea? Because the people and its government are in a desperate state, like Germany was after world war 1. They have nuclear weapons and are not afraid to shoot if invaded. They are a serious threat. I think that while condemning their nuclear ambitions we should continue to provide humanitarian aid and lift trade restrictions so that things don't get too desperate there.

No. The United States is merely North Korea's devil. As long as we are over there, reminding them of our presence they will keep harping about how evil we are. The USA is nothing more than a scapegoat to them. Albeit a very dangerous scapegoat with more firepower than North Korea can super-impose onto a state-sponsored news' broadcast footage (and they know this) highlighting how invincible North Korea is. It's a troop/countrymen moral thing. They have no intention of attacking the US. They want to retake South Korea, not destroy it. Japan won't let a Nuclear strike go unpunished. China doesn't even like North Korea at this point (Their relationship is "Better the devil I know..." instead of "BFF") and Russia has its own problems; they doesn't seem to care for North Korea any more than China. The only idiots waiting for this to go bad is the fools in North Korea who WANT a war and the fools in DC who also WANT a war. Thankfully their voices are still a minority.

The big bankers, read - http://www.bigeye.com/bankers_make_war.htm, have always wanted wars. They finance both sides, have money in the arms producers, and make billions on wars. They are undoubtedly looking for their next war to finance at a safe distance.

Report as
Wars are created by and funded by someone. You may think it is NK or the US governements. But they are manipulated into wars to make the big bankers rich. Kennedy did not want to go into Vietnam so he was removed since LBJ was willing to go into Vietnam. When wars wind down, ergo Iraq and Afghanistan, they stop making money funding both sides. So, time to get a new war going and NK may be it.
