Did Puerto Rico vote to become a state in 2012?

It seems to me I read in my local paper that Puerto Rico would hold a vote in 2012 as to whether or not to make the official jump into statehood. Did such a vote occur? And if so, what were the results? (Didn't see the follow-up in the local paper.)

Puerto Ricans voted for Puerto Rico to become a state in 2012. This voting took place in November 2012 whereby 61% percent of the voters proposed while the rest rejected. In December 2013, the president passed this as majority had spoken.

Is 60 percent required to make it official? Such is the case in my home state of Mississippi. Puerto Rico is beyond beautiful, and I'm proud it's part of the U.S.

Does that mean that Congress must act, the president must sign...? What happens now? Is all official? Puerto Rico officially enters...when? Of course, none of this has much to do with me, but...just wondering...
