Are wasps good or bad for a garden? Flowers and veggies. Friend is going all out to keep them away. I figure they eat good and bad bugs.

Aren't they just part of nature? Just a predator to keep all bug numbers in balance? I have an all organic, diverse raised bed garden with some fruit trees and bushes.

There are different types of wasps. Some wasps eat nectar much like bees and do pollinate. Others eat caterpillars and other small insects. So they ARE beneficial to your garden; but you would not want a nest near your door. I leave them alone unless they are by a door, window, or the dog's area.

I don't think they are good for gardens as they don't pollinate any flowers . They are a pest and make nests that can get in your home ! Their stings are very painful ! I wipe out their nests as soon as I see one ! If they make a nest and get into your home , it can be quite expensive to get rid of them ! Now , a Praying Mantis is good for a garden !

MJW, they do pollinate. Some types drink nectar and pollinate just like a bee does.
Some eat small insects and caterpillars. Some even eat spiders. They are good.......just not by your door or window.

That's where they seem to always want to live !

Most spiders are good for the enviroment ! The only ones I nail are the Black Widows !

Not afraid for me . But more for the wife and bog ! I mean dog ! Excuse me .

They like cool dark places. Just be careful around them and you will never get bitten. I work in a cinder block building and they like the blocks. I have worked there over 10 years and no one has ever been bitten.

I leave the wasps alone - unless they build a nest at the front door! They aren't aggressive, and they are beneficial. They hunt the plant munchers!
What's driving me nuts are the Japanese Beetles!

oh i know. Those nasty little things came to my house once. I ran around killing those.

Creeps me out to have to dodge them to get in or out! They will protect their nest. Find a tree!!!

Oops! misread.
I set a trap for the beetles. It pulled hundreds to my yard. I had the willies for a long time. I had to spray everything!

lol. giggles. I of course picture a wild haired screaming person running for the door at top speed spraying a hose and swearing at the top of their lungs.

They just about wiped out the Jap Beetle here ! I've still not ever seen a Wasp or Yellow Jacket nail any other bugs !

Oh. I have. Not for food but they got in a big fight. And I have no idea what the thing was they attacked but it died. I have it in a baggy. I thought it was a horse fly but my neighbor said no.

Oh, it was worse! Much, much worse! We live in the country. I pulled in a bean field full of them. HUNDREDS!! The traps overflowed. I had to poison the traps and take them down. Dozens were landing on me with those sticky gross feet! Three bottles of pesticide later I finally got to be done. For days, I kept shivering as my skin crawled at the thought!

Now the wild haired screaming person swearing at the top of her lungs is just a regular Saturday afternoon. LMBO!!! :D

LMAO. I too live in the country and I pictured your comment and thought I might pee my panties for laughing so hard. Those scary movies have nothing over on living in the country. :}
