How do you train your horse! asking again cause somebody wanted more info

need help i have a gelding he is 4 years old. i can ride him i just want to train him right and to be safe to ride. he is not given me problems yet... i just want to know how to indentify my riding problems or what i need to focus on with my horse, and should i use a online program and which one do you reccomend? what i want to accomplish is i want to teach my horse to stop on a dime and to train him to run faster and to barrel race. but, to do that i want to bomb proof him like train him to be a safe riding horse!

Bomb proofing is fun. Just let your imagination be your limit. We walk them over bubble wrap, play with pool noodles, hang plastic bags off of things, aluminum pie pans off fences, shoot BB guns and then blanks near them, ride bikes around them, have children run at them screaming "HORSIE!!"
Anything and everything, pony him off another horse, pull things with him, sling ropes around him, swing ropes in the air over his head, etc
As for stopping well, at a walk ask him to halt with whatever cue you prefer. Vocal, lift of the rein, touch of spur, whatever. Ask with this cue first, then pick up your reins and slowly tighten until he stops. Praise and repeat. When walk is consistent, move to jog, etc.
as for barrels. Gaming patterns are best learned at slow gaits. Walk him to the barrel, ask him to stop at the pocket, then ask him to walk around it. Make sure as you are coming off it to be looking at the space next to the next barrel. (Never look at the barrel but beside it)
Also teach him to side pass so you can move him over without losing a ton of time.
Spend time going up and down hill and over ground poles to build his hind end (engine) No horse does well if he is heavy on the forehand.
