just what household items I can use to stop itching my poison

Start by removing cloth from the area you want to scratch due to poison ivy. Put the itchy area under hot water steam for about 30 seconds. This will help you relive the scratching feeling. Go to http://www.ehow.com/how_5133652_itch-poison-ivy-rash-scratching.html for more information.

The itchy sensation will happen. Try to keep the skin hydrated will calamine lotion and eucalyptus oil. Then avoid covering it so the poison can be released.

If you don't have a tube of Zostrix Standard in your house, pop down to the Pharmacy and buy one. NOT the HP (High Power) one - that is too severe! Put a thin smear of the Zostrix over the itchy area and it will rapidly fade away. Zostrix is a preparation of Capsaicin - the "hot" sensation of chillies - it neutralizes pain (and itch) sensation rapidly.

I usually scratch with gloves until the poison opens. Then pour rubbing alcohol on it. It stings like a mother but it stops the itch

A single dose of Homeopathic Rhus tox 30C or 1M will soothe the whole mess, but you asked for household items - not specific medicines. Zostrix is used every day in my household for something. It is MAGIC for pain or itching....

Get some ointment or lotion to put on it that should cool it off and make the itch stop for a while
