What kind of ring should I get?

I think the Lord has made it clear to me, who he wants me to be with and he's not my first choice (but not my last choice either) and I want to get a ring to let the whole world know that I'm off the market but mainly to let MYSELF know that I'm off the market but since I plan on losing a lot of weight, it doesn't make sense for me to buy an expensive ring because when I'm skinnier the ring will no longer fit for me - I also don't want to get something too cheap that is an obvious fake - so wedding bands are out of the question and it's unfortunate that most of the rings they sell are ridiculously expensive - so yeah what kind of ring should I get?

If you need a ring to let yourself know you are "off the market" then you have other problems. A piece of jewelry will not solve them.

I believe that a ring which symbolizes this to you can, and even should, be inexpensive and plain.

I'd get an inexpensive sterling silver ring and spend the leftover money on God. Try James Avery

Honey, if you need a ring to remind YOU you're "not on the market", you're still on the market. Especially with the added "he's my first choice but not my last". Sounds like you want a ring to show all your friends you're engaged and you aren't close to ready for that. Buy yourself a pretty ring and be sure so no one gets hurt. Best wishes.

Agree with ynp... if you need a ring to let remind yourself that you're off the market... maybe you need to reevaluate what you believe your god is telling you. Rational decisions need to be what tells us who is right for us...
Since that part didn't specifically answer you're question... I don't believe you should get any ring. Stay single until you do know what you want/need in a partner.

You're the woman, and you're buying your own ring to remind yourself. I don't know how "god" is telling you to marry this person, but somewhere in the back of your mind you're saying, "No, no, I don't want to." Think for yourself; if you won't want to marry this person at this time, then don't. No amount of symbols will make it work.

The ring won't quieten the part of your soul that is still looking.

I don't think The Lord said you need a ring. And if he's not your first choice...sigh....

Wouldn't it make more sense to show the world you are "off the market" by showing up with the fella who took you off it? This material symbolism you are describing is superficial silliness. Go to a gift shop and drop 8 or 10 bucks on something that won't turn your finger green.

Well instead of questioning your motives or wether u heard from God or if your idea is stupid or not (like many above are doing), I'll just recommend getting a ring that u can afford. It can be from k-mart to Fred Meyer Jewelers (some very good quality there btw) to any high end place. The proportion u spend on it will reflect the how permanent you feel it means to u. If u plan on ultimately having an engagement-wedding ring then don't spend much. It's the meaning of the symbol not the symbol itself that is the point, right?

I think that no matter who "he" is he deserves someone who sees him as her first choice. And quite frankly, if you were HIS first choice HE would be buying YOU a ring.

Exactly. I think it's a case of wanting to say she is engaged without the actual asking. Odd.

If he's not your 1st choice then why marry the man?

It sounds like you haven't even started courting ( dating) the man yet. Why put the carriage before the horse? Why a ring before u r actually engaged? And, the groom should be picking out and buying you this when its the proper time. Otherwise, dont label yourself as on or off the market. Put God first and He will help you with mr. Right.
