I am not actually sure... I had my guinea pig for almost exactly a year and he never liked to be pet so he would always back into his cage. But he did enjoy being held (or so I think) and would always pee and poop on me. Therefore, I ALWAYS had to have a towel when I got him out. Over the summer, my grandmother had a cat that ran around and she had some kittens. She managed to salvage one, just one, for me. I have him and named him Wyatt. I think it was because the fact that they were about the same size or because they were both outcasts ( the guinea pig was bullied in the pet store and the kitty was the runt and was malnourished) but they got along great. The kitty would climb into the cage and sit in there and they would just look at each other. They just kinda clicked! My point is that maybe you should get a kitten. Or another small animal. Or maybe I just had some weird animals. Sorry this is such a long post. Hope I helped!
Try not to hold him tightly.Give him his space and a way to escape from you as you don't want him to feel confined. Once he understands his time with you is all good, petting, treats and freedom to move about, you will have him sitting on your head.
All Guinea pigs run. That's how they get exercise and play when they're not in they're cage. it's also just their nature, they will always run to small dark places where they feel safe. Don't take it personally either. My guinea pig loved me but she always ran around my room and out of my reach. The best way I found to catch her was to set traps, like put some lettuce In a corner then hurry and grab her under a blanket (but don't hurt them). SoYou can't really stop a guinea pig from running away unless they're busy eating:)
