HELP!Had serious tooth pain from decaying molar all weekend. And naturally I went to DDS and was prescribed antibiotics for bone infection...

problem being the abscess wasnt as big this morn when i saw the doc and it started rapidly growing in size after I left dentist and now 7 hours later it's like I'm storing a golf ball in my cheeks and i already took 2 antibiotics and ibuprofen but it doesn't seem to be going down ! should I be concerned even though the antibiotics are already in my system doing their thing?

Call the dentist. Most have an after hours number. You didn't mention if the tooth was pulled or not but if it was,( I am assuming not, as they have to clear the infection first) but there is something called a "dry socket" which will make you swell and is very, very painful. If it wasn't extracted, and has enlarged that much, the dentist needs to be contacted immediately as this isn't normal. Antibiotics or not, get yourself checked. If you cannot get in touch with the dentist and are in abnormal pain, go to the E.R. and they can give you something until morning. I doubt it is anything the dentist did wrong. These things just happen sometimes. At any rate, continue to take the antibiotics. No more, and no less. Taking more does not make it heal quicker. (not saying you have)

Go to the emergency room or see a doctor...perhaps the dentist didn't foresee this problem. I had a decayed molar myself and never had this problem. I don't think anything bad will happen to you, but you should see someone.

Well, take care of yourself. I think it is probably some fluid build up and no big deal. I had some weird stuff happen when I had that problem, too. Good luck with your tooth :)

Oh yeah all alcohol helps ...I was using tequila and listerine and benzocaine before I saw the doc! But isn't an issue anymore cuz he gave me some painkillers ...the issue is a golfball sized abscess that enlarged after I saw dentist!
