Does anyone know what part of Africa did people who were sold in Kentucky come from?

My great, great, great grandfather was sold into slavery in Kentucky, then moved to Georgia with his master. (Rome, Georgia)

People who were sold as slaves in the US were not really "documented" so to speak; they were just snatched from Africa and shipped to various parts of the US. Most of the slaves who were sold in the US, however, came from the western part of Africa. Check out www.atlas-westafrica.org/culture-and-religion-in-west-africa.php for an insight into West Africa.

well, it's more complicated than just "snatched". often getting to the slave market or where they d be loaded onto the ship the journey could last weeks and they would endure deaths of friends and family, unbelievable horror and cruelty. all this before crossing the ocean.slavery was a long nightmare from begining to the end of many lifetimes. it's effects are still resonating today. one effect is people that will have great difficulty finding where their family originated, if at all. suffice to say i agree with the responder that quoted the site address in all ways, except i wanted to expand on the begining a little because i think to little info and emphasis goes into that part of history. good luck with your search.

I understand what your saying, because to me in some cases our people are still trying to belong. You know its really funny how our President is a product of all this. He's African and White. If he has Indian in him; I guess thats when you would call him " well rounded " Thanks for the info.
