Do Christians believe Jesus to be God?

Report as

Did anyone here read the 'Bible'? It says "In the beginning was the 'word' and the 'word' was with God and the 'word' was God". In the new testament Jesus says "I am 'the word'. So Jesus says he is GOD. Stupid people. Don't even read what you profess to believe.

Some think there is God and Jesus. Some think there is God, Jesus and the Holy Ghost. Some think you can only get to God through Jesus, others directly to God with prayer. I can't think of any who would say God and Jesus are one in the same because the Bible does say Jesus is the son of God. But some Christian sects do seem to place more importance on Christ than God!

Jesus has two natures He is God and man. Each nature is full and complete He is fully God and fully man. Each nature remains distinct. Christ is only one Person. Things that are true of only one nature are nonetheless true of the Person of Christ

Holy crap!... I mean... where did all that non-sense come from? It doesn't even make sense to people who do believe!
Report as
Actually, Dan, most Christians DO believe that Jesus is fully God and fully man. He is fully God, and He took on the body/nature of a man with all his temptations, weaknesses, etc., and without using His Godly power and abilities while He was in skin. He did this so He could fully understand us, and help make us understand God. And to pay the penalty Himself for all the sin of mankind, so we all could be reunited with Got. That's the amazing thing! So when I feel abandoned, rejected, etc., Jesus knows JUST how it FEELS, and can better comfort and encourage me...
Report as
That's all reunited with God, of course.

Yes He is. The easiest example is an egg. There's the shell, the yolk, and the whites. Each is separate, but all consist of making one single egg. If I might suggest, you might enjoy a book called The Shack. Just keep in mind it's how God chose to communicate Himself to the understanding of one man in particular . It is however a good way to simplify the idea. Hope this helps.

If Jesus is God, then who did he pray to?
Report as
In the Garden, Jesus, in His human part, prayed to God the Father. It was His human nature to totally shy away from what He knew was coming, of course.
Other times, He prayed out loud to God the Father (while Jesus was still "in skin") so that others could hear Him pray (and teach them how).
I've noticed you've asked that question on almost every comment, Linster. Here's your answer. Blessings to you.
Report as
Of course, God the Father, God the Son Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit, are all One and the same Godhead.

Bible accounts show that God and Jesus are two separate beings. Here are scriptures which back that up:

“Jehovah our God is one Jehovah.”—Deuteronomy 6:4.
“You, whose name is Jehovah, you alone are the Most High over all the earth.”—Psalm 83:18.
“This means everlasting life, their taking in knowledge of you, the only true God, and of the one whom you sent forth, Jesus Christ.”—John 17:3.
“God is only one.”—Galatians 3:20.
“The Father is greater than I am.”—John 14:28.

Additionally, when Jesus was baptized God said, “This is my Son, the beloved, whom I have approved.” (Matthew 3:17). Was Jesus talking to himself?!

Also, when God told Mary that she would bear a son, does it make sense that he would impregnate her with Himself and then be delivered as a baby?

Such reasoning does not make sense. However, as John 17:3 brings out, they are two separate individuals.

I hope this answers your question!

We are saying God has 3 jobs(personalities!

NO. The whole premise of Jesus' being god rests upon sheer credulity and interest. The history of Jesus is altogether the works of others. Because, Jesus never claimed himself to be a god, his parents have written nothing, and even his supposed father-god has remained absolutely silent upon the subject. There is not the least of authentic proof of the divine Christ of Christianity.

The four contradictory books, called gospels, only gives us detached anecdotes of Jesus. At first Jesus was a man -- nothing more. Mary was his mother, and the genealogy of his father, Joseph, was given to show that he's of the blood of David. Then the claim was made that he was the son of God, and that his mother was a virgin. Then, suddenly out of the blue, the claim was made that Jesus rose from the dead and that he was Christ and a god.

And, upon what authority are we asked to believe this Christian claim of Jesus' divinity? Somebody, some 1900 years ago, said that somebody else said, that Jesus was God! This is all the evidence we have. Strange!!

Right on Pious. It was at the first Council of Nicaea where some clerics gathered more than 300 years after Jesus' death to decide he was divine and cherrypick the stories for their holy book. No doubt you know this as well, I'm just following up your excellent reply.

The answer from Qur'an, God said:
And (remember) when Allah will say (on the Day of Resurrection): "O Jesus, son of Maryam (Mary)! Did you say unto men: ?Worship me and my mother as two gods besides Allah?? " He will say: "Glory be to You! It was not for me to say what I had no right (to say). Had I said such a thing, You would surely have known it. You know what is in my inner-self though I do not know what is in Yours; truly, You, only You, are the All-Knower of all that is hidden (and unseen).
"Never did I say to them aught except what You (Allah) did command me to say: ?Worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord.? And I was a witness over them while I dwelt amongst them, but when You took me up, You were the Watcher over them; and You are a Witness to all things. (This is a great admonition and warning to the Christians of the whole world).
"If You punish them, they are Your slaves, and if You forgive them, verily You, only You, are the All-Mighty, the All-Wise"
I hope this help.

The question is: "Do Christians believe Jesus to be God?"
As a Christian, I say YES. Every Christian I know believes that.

What better answer can you get but from the very ones you're talking about?

Not all Christian denominations are Trinitarian.
Report as
I said every Christian I know. And quite frankly, the belief in the Trinity is not crucial to being a Christian. Only believing in Christ and accepting His forgiveness and sincerely asking Him to come into your life, is the ONLY requirement for becoming a real Christian (or saved).
Report as
Well since some Christians falsely claim Jehovah's Witnesses and the Mormons aren't "real" Christians, it's hard to tell- and they are the most prominent non-trinitarians. Although many Pentacostal denominations, Christadelphians, and Christian Scientists are not either.

Jesus was a good man and a great prophet. However, he was infinitely greater than the most important man or prophet of any other religion. This is because Jesus Himself actually created and constructed the entire universe, and He is the One holding it altogether (Colossians 1:15-17; John 1:1-3; Hebrews 1:2,3 ). Jesus was, and is, God.
Christianity actually is not so much a religion as it is a relationship with the Sovereign, Almighty God. In all other religions, mankind strives to reach God-to be "good" enough to attain His approval and mercy. Unfortunately, no one ever can be good enough to earn eternal life. In no other religion was God, the Creator of the universe, humiliated, even unto death on a cross. Jesus, God incarnate, humbled Himself to the level of being insulted, flogged, beaten, and ultimately crucified for the sins of the world.

When Jesus, the eternal Son of God, took upon Himself sinless humanity He also took on the form of a servant, giving up His heavenly glory (Philippians 2:5-11). As the God-man, He had to learn obedience (Hebrews 5:8) to His Father as He was tempted by Satan, accused falsely by men, rejected by His people, and eventually crucified. His praying to His heavenly Father was to ask for power (John 11:41-42) and wisdom (Mark 1:35, 6:46). His praying showed His dependence upon His Father in His humanity to carry out His Father's plan of redemption, as evidenced in Christ's high priestly prayer in John 17. His praying demonstrated that He ultimately submitted to His Father's will, which was to go to the cross and pay the penalty (death) for our breaking God's law (Matthew 26:31-46). Of course, He rose bodily from the grave, winning forgiveness and eternal life for those who repent of sin and believe in Him as the Savior.
