The people who say we evolved from apes and monkeys are Christians. Scientists say that we evolved from a monkey-like primate because there are monkeys that have DNA that is over 90% human.
New species evolve from old species branching off, not killing off their predecessors. The term for this is biodiversity, an event that occurs mainly via adaptation of one branch not executed by the other(s).
It is a misnomer that we evolved "from monkey's and apes" . We evolved from monkey and ape- LIKE creatures and shared a common ancestor with them (which was neither a monkey nor an ape technically it was more of a proto-simian As these creatures spread they evolved in different directions depending on the environment of the area they settled in. So those who adapted to avoid predators by living in the trees retained a long tail and developed into monkeys, those who ended up in the Jungles evolved to adapt to that environment and, eventually became gorillas. One set moved into the plains and grasslands and began to evolve to stand on their back legs so they could see over the tall grass other changes that added advantage occurred and eventually this group (over millions of years) became humans.
Evolution causes its changes when the environment starts to change, and the current version of a species can't survive as well; one of the NEW versions (which turn up all the time but usually have no advantage from their "newness") survives a little better, stays a little healthier, raises its young with a little more success so that generation after generation more of the NEW version survives than of the OLD version. After enough generations, the NEW ones are what's left; the OLD ones have been crowded out. Primates (which is what man evolved from) still living "in the wild" have had no serious changes in environment that would give a NEW version an advantage, so the OLD version stays as it is, and the NEW versions never get started. That is over-simplified, I grant you, but species generally don't change unless a changed environment forces them to. So the chimpanzees and gorillas (monkeys AREN'T primates) are STILL chimpanzees and gorillas because nothing has made it advantageous to change.
Evolutionary pressures are constantly at work on every living thing. You just can't always see it (although sometimes you can). Monkeys and apes, as well as humans, are evolving due to these pressures. Come back on Ask.com in a million years, and ask why monkeys, apes and humans look so different than they did in 2013.
Humans evolving from apes and monkeys, is a creation of the christian creationists to try and discredit the evidence science has about evolution. Humans did NOT evolve from apes, we have a common ancestor that we split off from a few million years ago. The apes evolved in one direction from that time and we evolved in another direction, each splitting off into different branches of the tree. From that same ancestor the apes split up into the species we have today, including Homo-sapien-sapiens (which is us) that evolved from Homo-sapiens. Here is a link to a VERY generic family tree of the homo family, but it gives you the idea of how it worked and continues. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Hominidae.PNG
The belief is that we didn't evolve "from" apes, but, rather, broke apart from a common ancestor and went in two different directions (kind of like how a road splits into two). However (and this will predictable start a debate that I don't necessarily want to get into), there is no evidence for this. Or, you could say, because I am a creationist (and, therefore, have a different worldview and interpret evidence differently than an evolution), I personally find no evidence for evolution. I don't want to get into a debate about evidence, but if you still want to talk about origins, I'll be glad to (but I won't tolerate name-calling, or any other childish talk).
christians say that scientist say that we came from apes, but thats not true. scientists know that humans had a comman ancestor wit apes, they have plenty of proof, like skeletons, dna tests, etc, but usually christians are too lazy to learn about science. i agree that science can bee dogmatic sometimes, like nobody belived in the bosnian pyramids, but excavations showed that they are there, examinations showed the dna, the shape of the skeletons are tracable back, however noone ever found a skeleton or dna of "god" - thats about belief...
its funny, because every year we hear about new virus mutation, but we dont accept that greater greatures can evolve, thats just silly.
