I rear ended somebody what should I do?
I was driving to an appointment and it was snowing. I'm 17 and have had my Massachusetts license for just about a month. I was driving my grandmothers car which she left in my possession while she's out of the country. I was going down a hill about 20mph when I braked to stop at a red light and my brakes wouldn't work. Before I knew it I had rear ended the mans car in front of me. As soon as the car came to a complete stop I got out and first made sure the man was okay then looked at the damage. There wasn't any damage and I still offered to call the police which he denied. I took photos and exchanged phone numbers and we went our separate ways. I called him this evening to make sure he was okay still and he said he didn't plan on making a claim but he'd take it to a shop to see if there was any damage unseen. I'm revising the photos and I can see that there's a scratch on his car from the license plate on my grandmothers car. Not sure if its a debt but it doesn't look it. Am I covered under my grandmothers insurance if this bumper repair is costly? Is there anything I should do that I haven't done? The breaks failed because of the weather, does that matter with the claim he allegedly won't make?
