Which one of these sentences are correct?
On an essay of mine, I used the sentence: That feeling is enough to make you demented, eating away at you like a slow and excruciating death.
My English teacher though came around and marked that it should be: That feeling is enough to make you demented, eating away like a slow and excruciating death.
To me, my version sounds right, but I don't know which is correct. She has the Master's Degree in English, but I still can't help from thinking that her version just doesn't sound right without the "at you".
