How to create a telescopic screw jack

to support 10 KN load and to raise a maximum height of 250 mm and a minimum of 140 mm

What is a 10 KN, I have heard of pounds, tons and kilograms as a load, but 10 KN I have never heard of? And a telescopic screw jack? The weight of the load will decide what size material you will need, the rest doesnt really matter.
