Can I run a humidifier without an air filter?

I have a humidifier and the filter ha gone bad and I was wandering if I could still use it

I don't suggest it. A filter is there to keep the air coming out clean. You remove the filter your pushing dust and germs and anything else back into the air. The second purpose of a filter is to keep the dust and germs and everything else from clogging the machine. In the long run yes you can but prepare to buy a new humidifier eventually because without a filter there is a large possibility it will break itself.

one of the main points of a humidifier is to filter the dirty air, blow out the clean air, so I am guessing not...

A Humidifier does not have a filter. Your furnace has an air filter but the humidifier has a pad. It's like a sponge and air blows through it adding moisture to the air. You need a new one

True but not the ones built onto furnaces. Only portable ones may have an air filter
