How and when do I use sine, cosine, and tangent?

Use it on a rt triangle when you are at one of the acute angles. If the angle is 23 degrees and you look Opposite the angle and see no length on that side but you see the hypotenuse is 34 inches, you can write sin23=x/34 and solve it for that missing side. Sine of the angle= opposite leg/ hyp.
