I gave my employer two weeks notice, the next morning I was told to leave without pay. Is this legal?

Does Michigan have a law that requires employers to provide the last week weeks of compensation? I gave proper two week notice, and the next day was sent home and told I would not be paid. Is this legal?

Michigan is an "at-will" state and can hire and fire at will. However, if you're under any type on contract, you can only be fired for violations of your contract. This excerpt is from research.lawyers.com:

At Will
In Michigan, employees are presumed to be "at will." At-will employees may be terminated for any reason, so long as it's not illegal. Generally, employees who work under an employment contract can only be terminated for reasons specified in the contract. In Michigan, in order to overcome the at-will presumption, an employee must show that the employer made clear and unequivocal statements of job security to the employee.

The first place you'll want to check with or contact is the Michigan Dept of Labor: www.michigan.gov. You'll be eligible for unemployment as long as the Dept of Workforce services finds that you were wrongfully fired. This is going to be a process so good luck!

No, this is a violation of your constitutional rights! You worked for your money on a signed contract and they cannot refuse to pay you for the time you put it to help maintain their business.

Worry, you are completely wrong. There are no constitutional rights to a job. The correct answers are below.

From what I know your employer can request that you leave. They do have to pay you for any work that you have done for them on or off the clock.

They can get rid of you instantly if they want to once you have been fired, or given notice.
