Basically it's a bunch of different types of flowers, herbs, leaves and plants that are either medicinal, or just taste good, they are dried and crushed, and steeped in hot water. :)

Classical tea is the dried leaves of the bush Camellia sinensis. They are dried and blended to give optimal taste and color combinations. Most good tea comes from India or Sri Lanka. It contains a caffeine-like ingredient called "theine" that is both stimulatory and calming at the same time. MisRis is right in saying that there are all SORTS of herbal teas on sale, all with different tastes and benefits. But a good-old-cuppa is the infusion of matured and blended Camellia leaves....
