How can I transform old clothes into cute new styles?

I really hope that I can get a good answer, I love transforming clothes and I'd love easy tips.

Easy- you can cut them, mod them, or just style them with other things.

For example:
* I take my mom's ugly, old baby-doll shirts and wear them as print skirts.
* I take some of my grandmother's old, print blouses and wear them with belts (around my waist) and skinnies.
* I cut shapes and designs in my old t-shirts and pair them with bright colored or patterned camisoles underneath them.

Um... I put on the shirt (but not the sleeve) and push it down to my waist.

There are a couple of things you can do to make old clothes look new including cutting them short, putting in holes, adding patches and braiding in yarn strands together and sewing them to the bottom. Cutting them short mostly applies to jeans and various other long pants to turn them into shorts.

For a guy I just tear it in nice spots. The worn out collars are tough though :) so I usually unfold the whole collar there. Not quite the style of Obi-Wan for sure.

use acrylic paint mixed with a medium that you can buy at art stores and transform old t-shirts, cover up stains with designs. once set it becomes totally washable with care.

you could also make a unique pillow or personal quilt using soft shirts. I also took a pair of small shorts and made them into a purse

What I do is chop stuff up and where it. I don't know how to sow, so just use LOTS of safety pins!

You can add buttons, lace or other things to embellish your clothes. I would think a longer t shirt could have a piece of fabric added to attach a skirt to it and make it a casual dress. Accessories like jewelry, belts and scarves can change a look too. I have heard of other dying their clothes different colors with liquid Rit dyes.

If you yourself are not much of a designer, you could contact a seamstress or a tailor(Your local cleaners should have one or check the yellow pages)...they usually charge about $10.00-$15.00 per garment for alterations & will work with you in the styling department. This is really only a feasible option if the clothes were costly or you absolutely love them & can't deal with the thought of getting rid of them.

Well, the key is to customise and accessorise. Find an old dress or something and get some things together. Put cute buttons on old t-shirts, put an old black belt onto an old dress. That should look cute!

If you have an old sweater, get some vintage looking frills and sew it on the collar. Pair it with a cute jacket and wear it with black tights. (You can wear a skirt to go with that too) As for the shoes, you can wear boots! If you want, you can wear a knitted beanie with it too. :D Ta da! Cute vintage look!

Well, whenever I'm in a crafty mood, I look for clothes I don't need anymore, and cut, and sew, and design them in different styles. : )

Well, you can put on a mini jeans jacket with skinny jeans and boots. I do that with old blouses and they look fabulous! Also, add a belt around the waist, and do your hair to match. You can cut designs into them, dye them, sew or knit cute designs onto them, or twist beads and sequins into the material. Have fun!

If you wanna pay to do it, they have weird shops at some places where you can take shirts, and they do a weird cut in them to make it look like a butterfly cut out in the back or just cool cuts, etc... It's pretty cute, and it's not too expensive, but Idk where one even is. I saw one in Tennessee, I think? Lol.

A cool thing I'd like to try is, if you have an old pair of jeans that you don't really wear anymore cut them into shorts but enough so that you can fold the ends up then if they have a hole put a patch of a pretty fabric design you like underneath and sew it on! I want to try this with white shorts and put a pretty floral fabric patch underneath for a cute new pair of summer shorts! Hope this helps!

If it's a shirt that's too small, put it over a new shirt and cut at it until it's comfortable. If pants/jeans are too small, make them shorts and expand the waist line. If it's just dirty/ripped, dye, patch, sew, colour, cut, rip, tear to your wildest dreams!
