How do selfishness and pride separate us from God?

Report as

They both separate us from God because they are in disagreement with God. They are both solely focused on fulfilling their own flesh and are both self centered too. God does not put up with selfish and proud people and he counts them as wicked and not recognized in his kingdom. Read more on http://access-jesus.com/selfish.html.

I think vkoo was asking how it separates us, not if it separates us. I do that all the time. I read the questions to quickly, and my answer will sometimes make no sense. :) I only told you because you still may have time to edit your answer......

Selfishness and pride are human flaws. In Plato's Cave Allegory, the only GOOD is light/knowledge/enlightenment. People create drama and pointless stress over tangible material goods and Earthly pursuits. This drama takes away from pursuit of the ultimate good.

What is the ultimate good?

the ultimate good, according to Plato, is enlightenment.
IMO, this is the search for knowledge, aka wisdom!

Aahh, I didn't take notice that you had alluded entirely to Plato. I should have read closer. Thanks:)

Because we become self-centered. That creates a mind set that we dont need God. Which draws us away and separates us from Him.

Well, one is because God says it does. God doesnt like people who are proud and selfish and proud because its hard for people like that to love. That s why Jesus said that its easier to pas a camel through a small door that pasing a rich person to heaven. God loves love. Imagin someone proud who makes a mistake and for his pride, he wont admit he made a mistake. If the other person is wise and humble, will be able to take it. But could get the feelings hurt. And maybe create an enemity. And where s the love in that? And if its two proud people, they will eat each other before the problem is solved. Its actually one of the reasons of wars. Where s the love in that? And if someone is selfish, and having abundance sees that someone needs, and doesnt help his brother, How is there any love in him? And if someone is proud thinking he is better than everyone else and doesnt help someone for being a ''lower '' person, then How is love in him? You get the idea. Gby.

Selfish and self pride people only love themselves which is not what The Lord taught. Jesus stresses that you should love your fellow man as yourself an pride and being selfish it is impossible

Pride has kept many people from accepting Jesus Christ as Savior. Admitting sin and acknowledging that in our own strength we can do nothing to inherit eternal life is a constant stumbling block for prideful people. We are not to boast about ourselves; if we want to boast, then we are to proclaim the glories of God. What we say about ourselves means nothing in God's work. It is what God says about us that makes the difference (2 Corinthians 10:13).
