if protons and electrons naturally move away from each other what holds them together

They don't move away, they move together. Opposites attract. Negative attracts positive and vice versa. Think of magnets.

ps I'm currently taking Chemistry in high school

Actually the theory says that the force tht exists between two charged particles is given by

f = k x *y/r^2

x and y are charged particles and r is the radius between them

so the problem for electrons is to stop from collapsing in the nucleus so they revolvegenerating centrifugal force that counterbalances electromagnetic force of attraction
