What cause you to feel like you are going to pass out when you stand up?

Everything gets black.
I have to sit back down quickly.
Just started this morning.
Any suggestions?

That is known as orthostatic hypotension, postural hypotension, or orthostasis which results when you stand up too quickly and your blood pressure quickly falls. This happens when blood pools in the lower extremities of the body.

Low blood sugar. Eat something!!! Could be your blood pressure is high also. But I'd go with the low sugar first. Drink some juice. It happens to me often and I have passed out which isn't fun!!

Water won't help. Just drink juice. Then eat a little something, fruit, yogurt. I say little cause I can't eat too early myself. Hope you feel better!

I've had that happen to me when I get really dehydrated and tired, I just sit down and drink a cold glass of water and it goes away in a few minutes

It could possibly be POTS syndrome. If it happens again, I would suggest seeking out a doctor.

What does that mean exactly?? Thank you by the way!! :)
Report as
It's basically when your blood flow isn't quite right. Tends to be worse in warmer weather, and when you stand up the blood comes from your head and straight to your feet.
Report as
Oh, ok! I have an appointment soon so I'll talk to my doctor if it continues! Thank you!

It happens to a lot of people. They claim they have 'stood up too quickly', which is partially true. This is caused because of the lack of blood flow to the body. Standing up causes the flow to begin again, rushing to all parts of your body. It takes a few seconds for your body to realize it's only standing up. Often, it is accompanied by a short but sharp pain between your eyes.
