Does Scientology promote or advocate ignorance? Do they believe that medicine curing the ills of the world is a myth?

In an appearance on the Today show back in 2005, fellow Scientology member Tom Cruise harshly spoke out against psychiatric medicine and said that there is no such thing as a chemical imbalance. From what I gather, what Tom Cruise said in his interview with Matt Lauer is that chemical imbalances are a myth and psychiatric medicine is not the answer for those like Brooke Shields who suffer from depression. From what I have heard from him and other followers of Scientology is that only the belief in that faith can heal, not medicine.

Scientologys main goal is to make as much money as possible for L. Ron Hubbard (the founder of Scientology) and his estate. The man has made several fortunes off of his pretend religion and lives like a king. Im sure the church of scientology offers their own 'cures' and treatments for huge fees to its followers.

Something to remember.... Scientology is a "religion" that was started by a science fiction author. If scientology is a real religion then that means that Stephen King can be God if he wants to ever stop writing books.

All religions advocate ignorance. Christianity is the best - "why do bad things happen?" - "because God works in mysterious ways". The fact that Scientologists have a book, make them as credible as Christians.

Scientologists claim to believe in science, and call Psychiatry and Psychology junk, with no credible proof that they are real. From Wiki "Scientology teaches that people are immortal beings who have forgotten their true nature.[8] Its method of spiritual rehabilitation is a type of counselling known as auditing, in which practitioners aim to consciously re-experience painful or traumatic events in their past in order to free themselves of their limiting effects". Crazy? Prove it wrong. You can't - just like Christianity, they have their faith.

I'm sure they mean well - they fund things like Narcanon to help people get off drugs, but at the end of the day, when the only proof of your beliefs, is your belief, yeah you are promoting ignorance.

My beliefs when it comes to religion are that being a Christian is okay, being a person of faith is okay, but it doesn't entitle you to be ignorant. For example, if the parents of a sick child refuse medical help for their child because they say that medicine can't cure illness and that only faith can heal and then their child dies, their ignorance comes back to haunt them.

I don't follow Scientology but we all could live better lives by using pharmaceuticals as little as possible.
