Bought a marlin 45-70 govt rifle and got it home and found out that the trigger is loose is that the way they are or do I have a defect

Report as

Marlin government rifles tend to have a loose trigger, since they come separately with the sear. It is also normal to get some movement of the trigger when the hammer is not cocked. However, if you desire to have a tight trigger, you can take your rifle to a gunsmith and have it fixed.
