how long does it take for smallpox to kill you?

According to the CDC, smallpox is not always fatal. There are four varieties of the disease. Two of the four are usually fatal, another has a 30% fatality rate, and the fourth is the least dangerous with only 1% fatality.

There are several phases to the progression of the disease, but from looking at the CDC site it looks like the risk is highest around the 3rd or 4th week.
