How to help a love one with bipolar

Report as

Listen to what they say, remember theyre bipolar so be forgiving if they snap at you, stay calm when they're mad, and never try to shut them down during an episode (like by saying, "calm down." or "You're overreacting, it's fine..)

Be supportive and making sure they stay on top of their meds is a must. I am bipolar, was diagnosed nearly 20 years ago. Any advice u need feel free to ask. Good luck. also learn how to spot manic as well as depressive episodes.

I'm not sure you can self diagnose from a book, or that u should. It is usually diagnosed in late teens and early twenties. You should see a good psychiatrist. If I can help in any way plz let me know.

It is important to listen what your loved one has to stay. Be patient with them and don't assume that you know what they want. Be aware of the symptoms brought about by this condition so as to know how best to handle this person. So long as they stay on their prescribed medications, there shouldn't be a problem.

Not necessarily. Those of us with bipolar disorder frequently need med changes and psychotherapy.

And once the proper meds are found, they're fine and quite functional.
