What should I be asking when hiring a nurse for in home care for my elderly parents?
Credentials, previous experience/references. Do a thorough background check. Not all "caretakers" are the same behavioral wise, including Hospice employees.
Do they like old people?Have they ever cared for an old person before? Are they patient?
You need to ask if they have the right experience and are equipped in case of emergency.
Are they certified in cpr and to administer and medication or treatments they may need. you also want a list of references. (And call the references)
References, nursing certification, last job, why she left, hours she can work, payment, emergency plans, smoker,ph.#,mailing address, ss# for tax reasons.
Background check for sure. Some choose this type job to take advantage of the old person. Stealing is #1 reason. And not just money.
