Do you think the handler for the groundhog may sue for defamation?

In Ohio, "prosecutors" are indicting the animal for being wrong about his Feb. 2 early spring prediction, saying he should get the death penalty. Do you think the publicity this is generating will eventually lead to a defamation suit being filed?

Seriously? You can't sue an animal for being the subject of an idiotic, if amusing, human myth.

No, it's a joke. But it is Spring in California, so I think the groundhog could sue for libel.

I think the publicity it is getting is simply ridiculous. If there is a suit filed, I hope it gets thrown out and laughed out of court. I doubt any lawyer in his/her right mind would take the case anyway. In short, my answer is no.

I think so too. Actually, this spring is more normal than 2012 with June-style temperatures.

They shouldn't put Punxsutawney Phil (or Pete) on Death Row. He's an animal for crying out loud!

I understand that there have been frivolous lawsuits in the past, but when I heard this one I just moved on. Hard to believe people are going nutzoid over this.

Better than that. He didn't sue, he indicted Phil. Held up a pic of him with indicted blazoned across it and told everyone (tongue firmly in cheek) that the penalty was death.
