Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances. This is the text. Which part do you think people are abusing? Freedom of speech, with porn? Or freedom to assemble, with terrorist groups? Or the prohibition of free exercise of religion in public schools? Or freedom to petition for redress of grievance, with lobbying? The freedoms always have margins, areas where the freedoms are pushed until they cause us to feel a pinch; this is true of all the amendment freedoms. They do not exist apart from each other, but in their own tension: the right for me to free speech is in tension with your right to life, if I yell fire in a crowded theater.
