If we are able to say "Guns don't kill people, people kill people", then are we also able to say "Religion doesn't kill people,

people kill people"? Of course, that is if you believe in the saying of "Guns don't etc etc" in the first place.

Guns and religion come from people, and people control them.

Guns don't kill people, but neither do people. People have bullets that guns use. People pull triggers that guns have. Bullets hit bodies that can't take a hit.

Well, of course, it's people misusing guns or religion that causes lots of problems. Still, I haven't yet been convinced that anyone outside the military needs to have an assault gun and 30-round clips of ammunition.

No doubt. If you can't hit a deer or a trespasser in six shots or less, you need time at the targets, not a bigger clip.

Yes , you could say the same thing ! People of different religions kill each other , not the Religions themselves .

Yes. Depending on the religion though. If it is written in the text to 'smite thy enemies" people will interpret it to suit them and see enemy's in their soup and act accordingly. They will justify it through religion. Wrongly of course.

You could say that if you're tolerant of ALL faiths. But as with many, there are always exceptions to the rules, so to speak. And that's the crux of the problem, religious intolerance!

While both of those quotes are undoubtedly true, guns provide an easy means to kill people and religion provides an easy motivation.

Both sayings are ridiculous. Guns do kill people. I haven't heard of school kids being mowed down by sticks or verbal lashings. Guns in the hands of people kill. Using God as an excuse to kill is ridiculous also. Extremists kill, and they don't begin to know God.

Religion or guns cant do anything by themselves. It boils down to people killing people, regardless of the means or the reasoning.

Somewhat. Religion was ORIGINALLY INTENDED to create moral community. But you forget one thing, humans create religion. Humans also create guns but they create guns to defend themselves from neighboring countries or anyone who tries to steal their property or tries to harm themselves in any way. This is the sole purpose of a gun: for protection. Religion on the other hand was created by what men WANTED to believe and WANTED to hear. Basically, while guns are intended to defend and protect men, religions are intended to confirm what men want to hear.

A more accurate quote would be "People using guns kill people because of religion."
But no, the two ideas are separate because guns are a tool that accomplish a task, where as religion is one of the causes that give the task that requires the tool. On one point they share a common factor, both religion and guns give people a sense of empowerment that they otherwise would not have.

It's easier for me to say, the misuse of both can kill.

I believe no religion is violent. Yes there have been extremists in many religions but they are not the whole religion.
