Why does my horse throw his things?

so every time I have my saddle and the pad next to him, on a cart, he like to pick the things up with his teeth and throw them on the ground. He also likes to take his foot and kick his grooming box over so everything falls out. Is this just play or what?

It could very well be him just playing. Secretariat was famous for playing like that. If you can ride your horse with no problems.... then I would say it is just play.

Now you know horses?Really?Aren't you more related to cavemen?
Report as
I am related to cavemen as you are.... it is just a moniker and was meant to be taken paradoxically.

I do know a little about horses. I used to work at a horse ranch. I'm not claiming to be an expert.

As an experienced horse person, I think he's just entertaining himself.

The smarter the horse the more they like to entertain themselves and/or get a reaction from you. We had one that after watching roping practice one day started swinging his lead rope around. It made us laugh so every time someone walked in the barn he would start swinging it again. He was freaky smart.
I find the smarter horses also have a sense of humor. This same horse would sneak up behind cats drinking from the water trough and push them in.
a friend of mine has one who likes to toss stuff out of her stall.

Some people say horses are stupid. I think those people are wrong.
Report as
They are mostly wrong. Horses are like people, they range from very smart to very dumb and everything in between. I would rather work with a smart one who tries to outthink you that's a dumb one that just doesn't get it.

He is just playing or bored. My stallion does the same, he messes with everything! Saddle, blanket, whip, brush, lead, jacket ect... :) My horse gets bored easily so I have to give him toys and he's in a pasture with other horses
