How to care for a puppy?

Hi! We are bringing a new puppy ((Cockapoo)) home on the thirteenth of April, and it's our first dog so we have no idea what to do. We need to know how to housebreak, recommended foods, what time we should feed the dog, how long can we leave it alone etc. Everything is appreciated!! If it's easier, can you give me a link?

Wow, where to begin? First of all, congratulations! As the previous poster said, this is a lifetime friendship and commitment. The first few months in a new home for a puppy can greatly affect how their life goes. First of all, consistency is huge. All members of your family must agree and deal with the puppy in the same way. Praise the puppy for good behavior and just distract them from bad behavior. Show them the right way instead and go crazy silly when they do it right. Once they are appropriately vaccinated (I'm a Vet Tech), socialization is big. Socialize them with other people as well as other dogs. Their life will be better off when they can easily get along with everyone. I would also recommend training classes which are good for puppies and new owners. Find a Vet you like and ask many questions, they are happy to answer them. Also, without a doubt, plan to have them spayed or neutered. It will make their lives much healthier and easier. Read up while you can before you get him and put the effort in and you will have a wonderful friend.

Although I would follow the links other people have given, here are a few tips... From personal experience I would not leave the dog alone for more than 3-4hrs before it's housebroken (or you'll find a surprise when you get home) and after that about 5-8hrs. As for food, any natural dog food should work, but if it's a puppy, get puppy food and so on.

Make sure your puppy has been wormed. All puppies carry worms. I would feed it soft food at first. I mixed puppy chow with a little milk. That worked really well. The dogs loved it.
