I got 2004 sprinter, does not start immediately, i have to turn the ignition 'on' and 'off' many times to get the engine started :(

2004 dodge sprinter 2500 inline 5cylinder TD.

The problem may be the battery terminals, the positive cables on the starter, spark plug wires or the fuel rail on the injectors. If you start your car and hear a click sound, then the problem may be the solenoid. This prevents the starter from getting the current of starting a car . However, to be sure about the cause, you should contact a qualified mechanic for assistance.

It might be the glow plugs, depending on the milage on the vehicle. But really its hard to ballpark it without the vehicle in front of me... As the previous poster said it could be as simple as battery connects however I would assume that you checked those first.

i appreciate your answear... but i dissconected the baterry several times and still doin thesame thing. the fan keeps turning on, when i turn on the ignition..but engine ownt start. because if the starter will spin the engine, the engine will start right on.

Most diesels will burn black to grey smoke on startup... Its generally nothing to be concerned about. If it doesnt turn over then it might be the starter solenoid. If you take it to the dealership they have diagnostic manuals which you have to follow step by step to diagnose a problem. You might be able to find these yourself on the internet. It does sound more like an electrical problem then a mechanical one.
