Do people with a much higher education level seem to choose being Athiest instead of Christian ?

Report as

Many of my family members have college degrees. The religious differences do not seem related to education. Some are Christian, some agnostic, some atheists... All are happy!

Thought I'd better check it out, Happy. Nobody's going to snip at you for that. But the final comment is the winner, isn't it.

I don't think there are more or less but stats do suggest you are more likely to find non-believers in the highly educated.

Yes! Unfortunately, there are also other exploitations. You got her thinking about quality vs. location. Like I said, a well earned star. :)

I don't think so. I know many highly educated people who are devout Christians.

Knowledge does NOT mean understanding or wisdom. I see both outside of here. The wise usually don't argue about something they don't believe in.

I don't think people with much higher education level is most likely to choose being an Athiest instead of Christian. Everyone has different religious views of what they believe in nor not.

I think many atheists make SURE you know their "qualifications" for their beliefs and that's why it may seem that way. But no, my dad has a Ph.D. in mathematics so I've always been around all levels of education and the argument will continue on no matter what.

It would "seem" that way but I'd have to say no. My pastor is a highly educated man.

Of course individuals may be the opposite, but overall statistics show religiosoty decreases with increased education.

Jesus actually said that this would happen and was happening back then. At Matthew 11:25 it says, “I publicly praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intellectual ones and have revealed them to babes.” A humble individual is able to draw close to God. At Psalm 138:6 it says, "For Jehovah is high, and yet the humble one he sees; but the lofty one he knows only from a distance." No matter how much education one has, one must always be humble to draw close to God.

On average, yes. According to both the Pew Forum and Gallup, incidence of atheism increases sharply with increased education.

Obviously overall statistics don't necessarily apply to a specific person but multiple sources of research have shown that religiosoty decreases as education increases- this trend is both national and worldwide.

Thanks.. I thought so. Maybe more science fields ?
Report as
It's true across all fields, it is just that the sharpest increase is in the sciences.

Good answer. And it does depend on the person. I know people in medicine who've said that the more they learn the more they believe or are amazed with God.
Report as
And most of my colleagues feel the opposite. Irrelevant to the nature of the claim being made.

Of course, but what does Christian have to do with it? I mean there are other religions besides Christianity you know. Like Judaism and Hinduism and all the others. Christianity doesn't have anything to do with it.

It of course depends on the person.. But it would make more sense that, statistically, atheists would be more educated than Christians because the more you know, the more you start to doubt. It's easy to believe in something when it is all you've ever known. If you know a lot, that becomes more difficult and requires more faith.

Yes. Countless studies have proven that the more intelligent and the more educated someone is, the more likely they are to not be religious.
Go figure.

All the professors I know are employed at a near by Christian University. Very intelligent people and sinners in need of a Savior. None of then feel the need, no pun intended, to lord their education over me to make a point.
