One of the function parts of the scissor jack is the handle. This is inserted in a point on the jack stand where it is turned to expand or contract the "scissor" pieces. By this, it moves them through a long, horizontal bolt. The best scissor jacks have modifiable handles so that one can move the handle from one ground-side horizontal position to the other. The handle can also be flipped over to continue moving the jack bolt in the same direction.
