How do you get rid of ticks

haven't seen my dog for 5 days so when he comes back he has ticks

There are many good tick shampoos and spot treatments available. Check at your pet store or veterinarian's office. You may also have to pull off some ticks, when they get full they often do not fall off even after being killed.

I just pull em off. Disgusting little critters especially when they "blow up".

I'd question why you think it's still your dog ... after you haven't seen it for 5 days.
If it's been loose that whole time - it could be picked up by the pound, or taken home by a random stranger.

You know, an interesting point you make here. Still, this person could live in a very rural area that loose canines are no big thing.

Around here ... it's a bigger deal in the rural areas ... because there, loose dogs play havoc with livestock/chickens/etc.

In fact, you're more likely to permanently loose a dog in our rural areas ... either to crossing the road at night, hungry coyotes, hunters who don't look before shooting, drug growers, or just an angry farmer/rancher with a rifle.

Hmm, interesting. Thank you for enlightening this "suburb slicker" on the intricacies of rural life! I would not have thought about that.

I had a neighbor with a small dog once. They kept putting it out at night, and it kept us awake with its constant yapping. I warned the neighbor there were coyotes in the area.

When the coyotes carried off the little yapper ... the neighbor accused me of planning it! They even called the cops and wanted to file a report on me. Because "he must have lured the coyote to come get my little darling". As if the yapping wasn't enough lure. LOL

Dont pull them off bad idea.Burn the end of a sewing needle in till its hot and stick it on the tick and the tick will come off but i think that will take longer.

Not only will it take longer, your method I believe is unnecessary and a pain in the you-know-what. Just saying.
