How to make my nugget dog stop digging holes, looking for gophers...

he digs holes all day. 9 hours a day everyday. he's messing up his teeth ripping out roots with his teeth. he's kinda psycho as well. he's super determined and won't stop. he even digs in the night if he has enough energy. and he is a weenie dog, and has a strong digging trait to begin with. one of his teeth fell out too! anyone know any tricks???

PETA and the SPCA would get on me for this, But fill a hole with water and stick his head in it. This is old school, and works, but kind of cruel. But so is leaving a dachshund outside all night. You could try a more humane method of watching the dog and scolding him/her when he/she starts digging.
Raised 2 from pups, and never had a problem. Never left them outside alone, never had to do more then yell at them when they started digging.

Where did I say I left him out all night...
I would never do that to him. We have a doggie door and he's free to go out back until 9ish. He dosent even really have fur.. It's more like fuzz. And I couldn't do that to him.. But he loves digging so much he won't listen. Thanks anyhow

I don't know a trick for your dog but I do know a trick for getting rid of the gophers your dog is digging after.... (Seriously this is no joke, it will work) You need to pour urine (human) down the holes. The gophers will leave.
