How old is to old to go trick or treating?

Report as

Whenever you want, I don't think there is a "too old", there's no law. If they don't want to give you candy that's their thing. If you're 13 or older, it's easier if you have a little kid to go with though.
Happy Halloween!

I would say your junior to senior year in high-school, Most people prefer to give candy to younger children and often tend to run out of candy faster when having to give candy to every single person under the age of 20.

You're saying it's NOT pathetic to be trick or treating in high school?

12 is the last year you should go with the intent of accepting candy. Trick-or-treating is for children. At 13 you are a teenager, do you want to still be considered a small child?

Which side of the fence do you want to be on? The side that needs to be chaperoned or the side that can be the chaperone?

Um free candy and it's not like we go with our parents we go with like 3 friends and that's it
Report as
So, you're proving my point.

If you're old enough to be out by yourself you're to old to be trick-or-treating. I had a friend once that would drop pacifiers in the bags of anyone to old to be out trick-or-treating.

A small child coming up to your door for candy during Halloween is cute. For a teenager it's pathetic.

Teens spend so much of their time trying to gain independence by convincing others they are capable of handling things on their own but then choose to engage in childish behaviors and activities. Then they wonder why they aren't treated with the respect they feel they deserve.

Respect is earned, not given. If you want respect, act accordingly.
Report as
Simmer down gramps. Its free candy, and people like free candy, okay? If you dont think its "appropriate" for a teenager to go trick or treating, then that's your opinion, but not everybody is as uptight as you seem to be.
Im 15 and i LOVE going trick or treating with friends!! :D
Report as
I know there are people that say some kids are "too old to go trick-or-treating" but I very much disagree with them. (Besides.. my son, unfortunately for him, looked ALOT older than he was due to size and height leading to people being absolute jerks to him as they didn't realize he was not near the age they thought he was). I believe it is for all ages ~especially if you still have to go to school then obvvvviously you are still a kid and should be able to enjoy kid things~ and for those hateful people that say "they are too old".. a-hemmm... this is a fun day. I would give anybody that came to my door dressed up candy on Halloween. But then again, I am not a stick-in-the-mud and find it fun to see all of the costumes and people having fun. If they try to trick-or-treat without a costume I don't shoo them off either, I offer them halloween make-up or those cheap masks and give them a bag to trick-or-treat with... and then they can trick-or-treat.. or would the grouchy people rather these /not kid-not adults/ to be getting into trouble or to be tricking their lawns with tp and such? :D SMILE. ENJOY. HAVE FUN. LET THEM HAVE FUN!
And the respect comment... Respect should be given to all.. and then kept by earning it on a regular basis. It is like the casting stone quote.. do you really deserve to be respected or have you made errors? really
Report as
To ILoveKotyLee: First of all, I'm not a 'gramps'. And I'm not going to apologize for having an education, for knowing the difference between right and wrong, or for having an opinion.

The question is a 'poll' question (which should have been removed for violating the community guidelines). Poll questions ask for opinions. I gave mine. You are free to not agree with it. Just as I'm free to think you look pathetic when you trick-or-treat at your age. What you don't know is that we (society) talk about you when you leave (same as when we see ball caps being worn backwards or pants hanging off a rear-end).

At 15 I'm guessing you have battles with your parents to assert that you are mature enough to have some freedom. Going trick-or-treating for free candy doesn't help your cause.

It's sad when someone (professing to be mature) believes that another is 'uptight' for expecting you to act mature.

Interested in knowing one sign of immaturity? Name calling and saying people need help when their opinion is different than yours.

You?re young so you have a lot of living ahead of you. You would do well to listen to others and consider what they have to say. Make up your own mind of course, but at least consider what others have to say.

One of the reasons I've done so well in life is that I embraced the older generation and learned from their experience and knowledge. Why make the same mistakes? You will find that the older generation is eager to help you succeed.

Keep in mind that I said, "12 is the last year you should go with the intent of accepting candy." If you want to dress up and go have fun - great.

Now, you have a choice and some information to base your decision on. Which way do you choose?
Report as
I think its fine until its just plain boring
Report as
I agree with your opinion that you shouldn't go trick or treating older than 12/13. I'm 16 and the only reason I still go out on Halloween is because I have to go with my little sister, since my parents work so much. sometimes I just throw on a costume for the fun of it, not even asking for candy. my friends little sisters are friends with my little sister, so we usually hang when our sisters are trick or treating. since they're still really little we take them home early. then we go to my friend max's Halloween party.
Report as
well I say 12-13 should be the age to stop...since the ecoonomy's in shambles people rather give candy to the younger generation...not teens...I'm trying to stay neutral here and chances are that I won't...when your a teen people would expect you to have money so you can buy your own candy...at 12-13 you can cheperone a younger relative to go trick or treating but chances are that a 12-13 year old won't be getting candy.:)

Some towns may have an age limit. I think if you're in high school, you are still young enough to trick or treat if you want. After 18, you probably would rather be at a party or stay at home and dress up and hand out candy.

Don't be a dumb child and go trick or treating once you get into high school. I like candy but I feel like it's rude to be going door to door for candy that's supposed to be a childhood experience, it's supposed to be for the little kids. I however dress up and go to parties, haunted houses, Halloween events....if you're a kid (under 13) trick or treating it's fun, if you're a teen trick or treating that's called begging.

Report as
I think most people in high school would probably enjoy the parties and haunted houses and etc more than trick-or-treating but sometimes they rather live out those fun memories of trick-or-treating while they can because you can do the parties and haunted house anytime and sometimes people aren't allowed to go to the parties and h.h's or haven't the $$ so whichever they can do or choose is fine as long as they have fun.
Report as
I think people should stop trick or treating as soon as they're old enough to buy their own candy :)
Report as
My 6 year old cuz can buy his on candy should he stop? And more about fun and living it up when your young then candy.
Report as
If your that old just dress up don't knock for candy this is what my mom and dad do.
Report as
chibisherry: I guess not, what I was trying to say is once you're sixteen which is the age you can get a job you really shouldn't be trick or treating and probably should be giving out candy to the children, going to parties, going to haunted houses, scaring your friends, seeing scary movies. The trick or treating is more of the childhood experience and once you grow older you start spending halloween in a more mature way.

Depends how tall you are, im in 7th and im the size of a 4th grader! so, i still go out and trick or treat. But, it might also depend on a costume, one that covers your face would help so they dont know your age! Go to family first because they'll give you candy no matter how old you are and then go trick or treating. Maybe take around some neighbor's litttle kid for help.

I think that you should be able to go trick or treating until your about 15-16. Although when my cousins went trick or treating one was 13 the other was 15 and when they asked for some candy they were told they needed to stop stealing candy from kids because they were told they were way to old.

I would give candy to any age, though please dress up. I still wouldn't deny you candy but it is the game-- you let me see how adorable or scary you can dress up and I give you free candy :D I think everybody that is school age should go out and have fun with it and anybody that ignorantly says, "they are too old to trick-or-treat" should get egged and tp-ed. (and if it rains afterwards consider it karma as it sticks to your grass and trees) muahhahahaha.. btw I super hate the comment "they are too old to trick-or-treat" because my son has always been ALOTTTT bigger and taller than the kids his age although his mind obviously is not and so freaking think about it before you go hurting some kids feelings acting like a jerkwad. KARMA TO ALL ... KARMA TO ALL

. I feel like if your Mommy isn't holding your hand, you're too old. Most teenagers do not dress up to go out so they're just out begging for candy. If you get in the spirit of things & costume up, then it's candy for you because you're having fun. If no costume, no candy! they get condiments that I get with my take out. Ketchup, soy sauce, mustard, etc. You get the picture. I guess to me it all depends if you are trick or treating or begging. So if you come to my house are you gonna get some candy or a pack of hot taco sauce?
