My child has a rash on his crack and anal area. What can it be?

He says it itches really bad. He scratches until it bleeds. I have taken him to 3 different doctors in the past year and none know what it is. They send me home with hydrocortozone cream. He is miserable. What can be causing it? He is clean in that area, I make sure because that was my first thought. (He is 7)

Try using some Benadryl Cream ! It will help stop the itching ! Also Neo-Sporin works real good on rashes ! I would call your Doctor and ask for a referral to a Dermatologist ! Until then , try the Benadryl Cream ! It works real good !

Make your Doctor give you a referral to a Dermatoligist ! He'll know what it is ! It could even be a yeast infection ! The Benadryl will stop the itching and help him out ! Good luck and I hope he gets better !
Report as
Thank you! Im working on getting him to his regular doctor soon and get him a referal. I put benadryl on him last night. He cried because he was so sensitive there now. I had to get it off. I will let him heal alittle then try the benadryl again.

Poor guy ! Regular Doctors can only do so much . A Dermatoligist will know what to do ! Good luck and let us know , OK ?

Were the doctors dermatologists?
And did the hydrocortozone treatment work temporarily?

no just regular doctors. They never mention going to a specialist. He says the cream helped the itch temporarily but it always came back. His rash has gone all the way up his crack. I feel so bad for him.
Report as
I'd go to a dermatologist, then

That is my next step thanks. I didnt think of a dermatologist. thanks for the help.

Three doctors and no answers/ Gezz Sarah. Keep looking for a doctor who knows how to help. Has he had any x-rays or tests? Demand your son is given test and not just creams.
Consult the Medical Association and find out who the doctors are that treat this area of the human body.
One thing I can tell you, and it is far fetched, but there is something called worms..Tiny whitish very active worms that cause itching in the anal area. They can be seen by the naked eye in stools. Other than that. It should not be ignored as just a rash.
Good luck..

Thanks! The first doctor did give me 2 pills to give him for worms. She said she will treat him as though he has them. We took them as directed. The rash and itch is still there.

I would have thought that one to... hmmm.

Since it is only in that one spot could it maybe be an allergy to something he eats, or to laundry detergent or the cotton undies? I would try benydrl and see if maybe he is having an allergic reaction. God bless him. This has to be so embarrassing to him. :0(
Tell him he is a brave boy and every one goes through this kind of stuff. A butt to a doctor is just like an elbow to us, they see them everyday! :0) Good luck mommy

Go to a dermatologist so they can send a specimen to a pathology lab. Maybe its fungal.

I am not going to recommend a product. I say make him a cold compress to reduce inflammation and itching. Then get in your car, drive to the nearest children's hospital. Then most importantly, REFUSE TO LEAVE! Stay there until they treat it and the treatment starts to work. Refuse all treatments that you have already tried. Be a Mama Bear! Get ferocious!
