YMCA is a community organization. They still have Gyms/community centers that are now open to all but used to also offer low cost rooming as well for young men. It stands for Young Men's Christian Association not sure who founded it it but the Village People were the group who wrote the song.
George Williams founded the YMCA in 1844, so that Christians had a place to hang out with others with the same beliefs. The organization wasn't exclusive and allowed people from all walks and beliefs to hang out together

The YMCA stands for Young Men's Christian Association and it has gyms, places to get together, and pools. It used to be just open for christian men, but now it is open to the public. There used to be the YWCA which was Young Women's Christian Association. But they merged them together to make just the YMCA. It was founded by George Williams in 1844 and the band that created the song is called The Village People
