Dementia is not a disease; it is a symptom of a disease or surgical procedure. Dementia is the gradual loss of brain function. This mean is degenerative, hence progressive and irreversible. My mother developed Dementia after having a hysterectomy.
Dementia is a problem with the brain that is caused by an illness like Alzheimer Syndrome. It does things like make people forget where they are, and even who they are with when they have known the person a long tie. It is usually degenerative.
To over simplify it, brain failure. It where the brain slowly stops functioning correctly. Alzheimer's is probably the most known forms of dementia. My father-in-law suffers from frontal lobe dementia, which can bring on symptoms similar to Bipolar Disorder.
