Is this a good story/book idea?

I want to write something about a talented woodworking young Norse boy living in Norway in the Viking age who travels across a serpent-infested sea to raid an english monastery. I know it sounds painfully like Sea of Trolls by nancy Farmer but I had this idea before I knew what that book was about. Thoughts?

I love the idea but brainstorm. If it sounds like another book, don't read said book, or too much of it at least, and try and come up with idea's that you love and want to write about. Reading the other book might help you avoid plagiarizing idea's from it but you might also right those in on accident.

Why not read it though

if you read something that is similar to what you are trying to create, you may accidentally incoorporate idea's/plot lines/etc. into the story that are from the other book without realizing it. It happens quite often with stories from reading them so much/so many of them. It's not that big of a deal, read the book if you please, don't let me stop you, but if the books are similar it's better to be safe than sorry, even if the book is for fun. Your own idea's are always the best!

the Norse often raided monasteries to get supplies and treasure and stuff so its like mixing fantasy with history

Sounds interesting. Sure, go ahead and write it! Remember to add details to make it seem believable and imaginable.

But i want it to seem unique and not like sea of trolls

Well, if you think that it'll be like Sea of Trolls then change the whole set of the story.

You can brainstorm out your ideas first or
Just write and edit later
