If I bought a PS3 from America would it work and play games from Australia?

Hi,
Looking at buying a PS3 from America due to the massive price difference,
would it work in Australia and play games bought in Australia?
Would it also play bluray movies bought in Aus?
This is the link to the one i am looking at,

The PSW console is region free, so you can play with it wherever you may be regardless of where you bought it. However, PlayStation and PlayStation 2 are region-locked. This means you can play your Australian games on your American PS3 without a hitch.

Generally they encode regions to games so you can't play it in different countries. So for example - you couldn't play an American game on a European console. With the Playstation 3 however, it seems they have mostly avoided the region coding. The following link says only 1 game so far has it (Persona 4 Arena). So it seems you can go ahead and buy that PS3. Note however, that the PS4 is slated to be out before Christmas (as is the Xbox 720).

Also, IF you do have a problem with region coding - you can bypass it with a MOD chip....

Oh right - the American console uses 120V, while Australia uses 240V - you will need a converter for that.......

Though the PS4 won't be able to read PS3 discs - Sony says they will probably have emulation software available by cloud so that you can download and play PS3 games.
