No, Cats or Dogs. OK. Guinea Pig - Skittish and smelly. Hamster - Skittish and bite Grrrrr. Bunny - Very boring, unless you like watching the grass grow. Fish - Relaxing, boring, and you have to change the tank water often. Turtle - Cool to look at when swimming, but you have to change the tank water often. Ferret - Cute, adorable, aggressive, bite Grrrrrrr, and smelly in many ways. ( Like marking their territory). Now, how about a Bull Frog or a Lizard of sorts. Cool, intriguing, easy to maintain. Show and Tell star at school. All boy kind of pet.
Snakes are nice. I know it sounds kind of scary, but if you can deal with the mouse/rat feeding, they're perfect for a boy that age. They don't bite and are super calm. They don't require tons of attention but do need a mouse/rat once a week/every two weeks. All they need regularly is fresh water. Look into Bald Pythons -- very sweet!
A ferret I just love the little guys. If he doesn't have much time to take care of them I suggest getting two. I'm like the ferret expert. They cost about 200 for the stuff and maybe a hundred for it but its worth it. If you don't like the smell u can descent it (if its a kit/baby)
I am very surprised no one has said a chinchilla. There like a fun fluffball. Hope u choose a ferret of chinchilla bye ;-)
I would say a mouse or rat. They are super social, easy to socialize and "tame", can learn their names and sometimes get so attached to their owners, they will follow them around like a puppy! My aunt's rats love her and they follow her everywhere! She got little harnesses for them and walks them! It is so cute! Rats and mice are easy to care for, but require WIRE cages. They can NOT be held in a glass tank unless they have a wire extension at the top. They MUST have proper ventilation, or they can easily die of respiratory infections. Mice and rats are prone to getting tumors, so they need monthly check-ups. they average 2 years as their life-span but some can get up to 4 years with super-clean cages, good diet, and proper care. Good luck with the decision!
Rats they are easy to take care of,nice, love friends, and you can never lose their trust. Im a little older but had some when I was 10 and I could even pay for them by myself my parents did not buy anything that's how cheap they are BUT MY PARENTS DID TAKE THEM TO THE VET
