How do you get the baby out of you when you have a miscarriage? Like...what does the doctor do?

It depends on how far along the pregnancy is when the miscarriage occurs. If it is under 8 weeks, they will probably be sure that your body did this completely on its own and do a D&C (dilation and curettage) to be sure the uterus is empty of tissue and clots. Later, if the fetus has developed more, they may use vacuum extraction which is a special suction device to remove the fetus and uterine contents and they usually follow that with a D&C, too. Even later in the pregnancy, they may have to allow your body to expel the contents with contractions that may or may not be strengthened by medications. It is rare, but in some circumstances they may have to do surgery like a Cesarean Section (C-Section) to completely care for the mother after a late term miscarriage.

--And we don't care to know why you're asking. To answer your question, the fetus is surgically removed by a doctor.

You need to google a "D&C procedure" that will answer your question. I'm sorry for your loss.

Medication or simple surgeries such as D&C, etc.
Stillbirth which is after 20 weeks, is another matter.

It depends at what stage it happens. Before 12 weeks, the body normally sheds it and if it is before 6-8 weeks you would not notice as the size is not very visible to the naked eye.. Even after that point the body can push it out. Otherwise, a medical procedure is done and it varies based on what stage it happened at. In any case and any stage, one should see their doctor about this event.
