Do we live our lives to God out of fear or out of love?

Report as

Hmm, I've never posted my exact religious beliefs on here, but I never made it a rule for myself to not do that, but this might be pushing it a bit, so don't ask for more.
I believe we should live our lives respecting God

We live out of fear of God. Godly fear is the beginning of wisdom.

I rarely have fear. Fear is a great motivator.

Most do it out of a subconscious fear of ceasing to exit, though they will claim it's out of love, this is actually a conditioned response.

Neither of this because today mankind's greed is only the reason GOD's ame exists. We need our beliefs for GOD to fulfill our need and demands. But some people ....only some people truly believe the GOD because for his love to his children and that is why the true name of GOD still exists today also

Both for me. Everyone should fear him, he should be our only fear. But we should also love him unconditionally.... Like our parents(;

I can't comprehend loving something, or someone that I feared.I don't fear, or love god, I believe god exists. And I know as much about god as the writers of the bible, "Nothing."

If you have accepted Jesus finished work at the cross then you have no judgement day coming because He took that punishment upon Himself for you.

Love. As believers are to fear as in respect but not be afraid of God. God loves us and we have no reason as believers to be afraid of Him, but we must respect Him for who and what He is and the power He has over the world. If you arent a criminal then you arent afraid if the police but you respect or 'fear' the fact that they can give you a ticket or even arrest you if you break the law. You arent afraid of them but you respect or 'fear' them. Same with God.

Well, there are two sides to this: The Bible says that the "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom." That means that you fear God in the sense that you know that doing something wrong could affect your walk in Him, or cause you to end up in the wrong place. That doesn't mean we're supposed to fear God in the sense that we're afraid He's gonna strike lightning at us if we do something wrong (though we should do our best not to do wrong.) But love God out of love as well. Give Him praise, and thank Him for all His wonderful blessings!

Hi Rainy! I think you've hit on something important here, and it deserves exploring. Well first, there's the whole "fear -of -God -is -the -beginning -of-wisdom-thing". Which is talking about a Godly, reverent, awe-filled love and respect for Him, but it gets twisted in the way the message is delivered...Rainy, I think that believers do do stuff that preachers tell them to do out of fear of God's judgement and wrath. When the truth is that once you believe, theres no wrath, and the only judgement is for heavenly rewards. But the reason for all the confusion is because most churches and TV preachers teach Law and Grace all mixed together. I'll just tell you one example in my life, I'm mature now, and have found a really good teacher who has helped me to learn how to properly divide the Word now, and i have peace with God now, but I was once a young, impressionable baby believer who just did what I was told and followed this one church. They taught Law and Grace mixed up together, and were Spirit-filled and all that, but they wanted us to be a 100% tithing church. (That's Jewish Law....of course I realize churches have to pay bills, but we can talk about that later :). And my husband's business started doing poorly, despite every good effort, and we tithed rather than paid necessary bills, out of fear of God. Not the respectful kind, but the kind that Satan puts in our heads, that "disaster will come, if you don't" kind! Rainy, do you think that God was pleased by any of that? I do not. But that is why you asked the question, it's a very real problem among believers, and it keeps many potential-believers away. And it does not please God! I always like your questions Rainy, thanks for bringing out what's true about God, bye!

Thanks Beth, that's great info. I hate that feeling of always feeling fearful for every little thing I do wrong!
Report as
Rainy,
That kind of fear is from the old law.
We live under the new covenant set by Jesus of grace and truth.
We rest in His finished work at the cross.
Which means, When God looks at we believers, He sees us as perfect as Jesus.
So rest assured, you are safe.

Out of love and obedience. Live life, enjoy life, praise Lord Jesus and thank him, and when in time of need ask for his help. Jesus is like our father n he loves us so we love him back and we live our life through him. No need to fear someone who loves you beyond measure unless you committed a sin and feel that there will be punishment.
