How can I get my cat to stop throwing up ?

she's older then me, my family took her in 19 years ago and no one knows exactly how old she was then. she won't keep any food down and she's lost a little weight. is there anything I can do ?

Boil chicken breast in plain water, let it cool and shred it. Mix with some cooked plain brown rice, also cooled. It's the best recipe for sensitive stomachs.

Keep an eye on her hydration by pulling the skin up on her neck. If it doesn't spring back in a second or two, she's dehydrated, so go buy Pedialyte and let her drink it (not all at once though so as not to overstress her stomach.) Pedialyte is in the baby section at the grocery store... NOT Pediasure.

Unfortunately those only address the symptoms (vomiting and dehydration) and not WHY she is throwing up. I would strongly suggest taking her to a vet as older cats can get worse very quickly.

How long has this been happening?

Thank you :) Well it hasn't been uncommon for her to throw up every once in a while for several years but in the last 3/4 days she hasn't kept anything down...

Don't bring it to the vet, she may just be getting old. She has already out lived most cats. Before we started adopting cats they lived fine just on their own, like us their body fights the bad things that get in and have to dispose of them. Puking may be a way of disposing of the things bothering her.
If you are very bothered about it, take her to the vet after about 7 days.
